Woher wir kommen

Where we come from

This journey through time takes you back to the prehistory of mankind and even further back to the developmental history of life and the origin of the earth.

Follow the timeline: from the Big Bang to the earliest fossils to fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals and humans. Experience the different periods of time with their special events. Observe the biological and cultural evolution of man, the emergence of early cultures and important innovations of mankind. Prehistoric times seem long gone, but are they really?

Who we are

After your journey through millions of years in the permanent exhibition «Where we come from» , you are now starting another journey through time that at best lasts 100 years: the life of a modern human being from conception to death.

How does our body develop, how does it work and how do we change in the course of life? What remains? What does our skeleton reveal about our evolutionary relationship to vertebrates? As different as we humans are from each other, as much we have in common: what makes us what we are? Who are we?

The diversity of people is also shown in the 50 portraits by the Brazilian artist Angélica Dass (*1979). Her long-term project "Humanae" aims to photographically collect and catalogue the diversity of human skin tones.

wie wir lernen

How we learn

We learn all our lives: deliberately or unintentionally, motivated by interest or from mistakes and through practice. But how exactly does this learning work? Which tools and strategies help us? What happens in our brain?

We explain research results from neurology, psychology and pedagogy with brain specimens of humans and animals, models, films, tests and games. You will experience that you know more than you think and that you learn without meaning to.

This exhibition is open every Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm to 6 pm.

A private tour for groups through this exhibition can be booked any time by appointment.
